A Letter From an Old Friend

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

Dear Good Friend,

Where do I even begin?

You have lived Alhumdulliah (Thank God)  for many years so far, and InshaAllah (God Willing) I pray you have many more. During this time you have been on this planet, you have been through a lot of trials and obstacles in life, in ways you would never think possible. I have listened to your story and you have inspired and amazed me so much to see how far you have come with all that you have been through. I really don't know how you did it. You talked to me about how you started as a quiet kid, and for a lot time have been searching for just one person, to make everything better, to talk to about everything, to laugh with, to live your life with but that, you haven't.

But, I believe you have.

It wasn't just one person who was there for you on your journey, there were so many, only God Knows the real numbers. People dropped in out of your life, strategically. It was as if it was a way to guide you. I know some of it might not be understandable in this moment in time, but know that there is a reason behind it, because it has brought you into this moment of life. You have became stronger, wiser and mature.

You have grown. Admit it.

I remember the times that you use to smile. Crooked teeth managed to be a tool to almost straighten your life. Where has time gone? Ask yourself the last time you actually smiled. Not the "in this moment" smile, but that "in this life" smile. Ask yourself, what happened? Who or what has taken it away? But know that just because you might not be smiling, doesn't mean you lost it. Emotions are what come and go, they are not constant. What stays constant is your reaction, your plans and your action.

Stay mindful. This is where resilience lies.

I don't know what lies ahead for you in this future other than certain death. Every person on this planet knows this for themselves. But that doesn't mean it's the end of the world. The question you must ask yourself is, what do you plan to do in this moment of time in your life? How do you want to live the rest of your life? How do you want to live everyday? Every hour? Every second?

Do not take this time you have been blessed with for granted. What lies beneath the body is a soul, and this soul of yourself is a true blessing. Know your potential. Know your worth. You are good enough, and don't let anyone else tell you that. You woke up today for a reason. You have another chance, take it. It's okay to make mistakes, humans aren't perfect. Trust me, I know first and for most that!

Fail forward. And keep smiling.

Thank you for getting this far for not giving up. You have come a long way, and InshaAllah (God Willing) greatness lies ahead. You are a talented person who I can see truly care about the world and those around you. Give yourself grace and know that others have got your back. You are not alone. I want to remind you of the times people told you how amazing you are, you listened, who heard your call and responded as best as they could. The crazy part is that, as you learned to open up, I and so many of us learned to do the same and together we began to support each other.

Because with that vulnerability, came truth. Came understanding.

There are many other people in the world feeling the same as you and there are many who need support. Be the one to be vulnerable. Speak your truth. Allow room for folks around you to do the same. Listen. Reach your hand out, and support them, just as so many have done for you. You have allowed so many people to open up as a result to that truth.

You are changing the world, one step at a time.

But most of all remember to not forget where you came from. Because with every story lies a beginning. It all had to start somewhere. For me it was recognizing my potential and for you it was seeing how your potential helped others. And as a result, there has come a journey.

I want you to know how much you mean to me. Your life means the world. You have taught me so much that I honestly wouldn't be hear without your help, support, for always pushing to believe in myself and to grow. I am not usually the type of person that is great with expressing my appreciation and love for you but, I want you to know that deep down I love you and I hope I can continue to cherish our connection as years go by. You are so important to me that if I were to loose you, it wouldn't be just a loss for myself but for the world.

They need you. Just as I need you.

It's time I wrap this letter up because I know it is a long one but, I hope you know that I mean every world. I hope you can look at this letter every time your stressed or lost and don't know what to do. May Allah swt continue to guide you. To grant you, your friends, your family and those around you goodness in this life and in the hereafter. May Allah swt make it easier for every single one of us who is struggling and grant us the strength and patience to overcome every obstacle we come across but, to also always grant us the ease.

Remember, you got this.

Your Best Self
